Growing up, Kelsie and Ross were the cool kids who I always wanted to hang out with. So, when C&I veteran Layla gifted her cousin Kelsie a maternity shoot, I knew it would be near and dear to my heart.

We went to this awesome little trail in Damascus at magic hour, complete with bridges and a pretty – cold – little stream. Kelsie was such a champ hopping in there (which was totally her idea by the way). Ross and I for sure laughed at her from warm dry land, but then we felt bad, so we stood in and did some team suffering. I’d say it was worth it

Kelsie and Ross, I’m so excited to meet your baby boy! Thanks for hanging out with me. My teenage-self would be so stoked to know that the day finally came!

In Maryland you never know what kind of weather you are going to have… one day it could be 60… the next… 28 and freezing rain. Ha! But autumn continues to be one of the best times of the year. There is just something so natural about mixing a family portrait session with the perfection of the fall colors. The Park’s fit in so organically and looked great while doing it. I’m not sure how they managed to have four perfect children…great job guys! Thanks again for having me shoot your family pics.

There’s nothing quite like it, the anticipation, the waiting, and when you know it’s time, the excitement. When she first told me she was pregnant, she said, I have something to tell you. That day was on May 23rd, 2013. I knew what she was going to tell me, but I gave her a solid …..umm, what? Rachel said….I’m pregnant…

At first I went through so many emotions, I felt happiness, worry, excitement but mostly, I felt secure. I knew I wasn’t ready for a second child but it would be okay because I have such a strong wife. She is the most solid person I know and has the patience of a saint. She put my mind at ease and made everything feel right. The only thing left in my mind was excitement. Was it going to be a boy or a girl? Would daddy get to play house with two beautiful girls or house with one and baseball with the other. These are seriously the first two things that went through my mind – I’ve never played baseball in my life and have played house more times then I’d like to admit. I come from a large family with lots of sisters.

Feb. 19th, 2014 1:32am.

I was woken suddenly by my wife, “it’s time,” she said. “I think she’s coming soon. We need to leave.” This was after her being in a slow labor all day long. I scurried to get my camera bag together and all Rachel’s belongings in a daze. There’s always that thought that you’re going to forget something important and remember after you leave. 5 mins later her water broke, at that point I was worried, the hospital is a 20 minute drive without traffic from our house. I’m not a doctor but I’ve put bandaids on cuts before, I really did not want to deliver our baby girl (yes another girl!!) at home or on the way to the hospital. 2:25am we were in the car, I wasn’t thinking and made the mistake of taking our mini van, I was thinking comfort… not the ideal vehicle when you’re in a hurry. We made it to the hospital at 2:40am got rushed to the birthing center and our baby Violet was born 11 minutes later at 2:51am. Our little girl, weighing in at 9lbs and 21inches long. She is the cutest little thing WITH A FULL HEAD OF HAIR!! Our first daughter, Penny, came out pretty much bald and at 6.5 lbs, we were both scratching our heads. Now our world consists of a Penny and a Violet – We’re so happy and excited.

Our first child is a wonderful little girl and if you’ve met her, you’ve been able to let a little bit of happiness into your life. She is the center of our world and is a biggest ball of happiness – we couldn’t live without her. So naturally when we first found out we were pregnant again, we worried. Would we love our second child as much as our first? Would Penny fell abandoned? Would we be able to do it? Now that she is here, she sleeps through the night, looks at you with funny faces and melts you with her beauty. Didn’t take much to take all our fears away. Penny loves Violet with the love of a older sister but the curiosity of an alien. She is an older sister in learning and loves every minute of it. So much to take in but it’s our chance for seconds and we both love seconds.

Meet the Kienzle sisters… well, originally the Kienzle sisters because they have all since been married and taken on new last names. Jordan, Corrine, and Katie are all a riot. I only had the pleasure of photographing Corrine and Jordan’s wedding, but I love these girls. They are the really down to earth and a ton of fun to hang out with. I hope to be taking pictures of all of them and their families for a very long time.

Hey everyone. This is a short post about a friend of mine, Ashley, and her adorable little family. Let me start by apologizing to all our other friends who we don’t end up blogging about. Its not intentional, we simply don’t have time to blog every shoot we do so we pick them at random here and there. But we love you all the same . Anyways, Ashley and I met when Ian and I photographed Liz and Andy’s wedding during the summer. We had so much fun with their whole wedding party that Ashley asked us to do a session with her husband and her little girl, Adelina. This session was a long time coming. We initially agreed to meet up in their hometown of Las Vegas, but our schedules never meshed. I think it was meant to be that we ended up doing it in MD, however , because her parents live here and her father is an avid antiques collector so some of his amazing finds make an appearance here and there. Anyhow… get ready for a cuteness overload. lol

Stacey & I go way back. All the way back to Benjamin Banneker Middle School. I think it’s been about 9 years since we have seen each other. It was crazy to see her with her little family! We were lucky to be able to use the property of a fellow Paint Branch alum, Christine, whose parents were nice enough to accommodate us for our shoot. Anyhow, Wade is one of the cutest kids you’ll ever meet, and so cooperative through the whole shoot! I had a hard time choosing these images.

Candice & BJ | Engaged

This is an engagement session that Ian did with Candice & BJ in Pennsylvania. The story behind this one is pretty crazy. Ian had to fly back home from Florida thursday night, landed in Maryland at 2am, and then he had to leave at 6am to drive 3 hours to Pennsylvania for this shoot. Then right after the shoot, Ian had to rocket back to Maryland to help shoot a wedding (with Justin) for Jessica and Dustin. Lets just say Ian probably drank about 10 Redbulls to get him through the day. Even though he was exhausted at the end of the day, he had such a good time at both events.

This shoot is centered around a 1920 Ford Pickup truck that Candice really loved. It was such a cool country atmosphere, and BJ’s son, Andreas, added such a nice touch to the shoot. He was so adorable and made the funniest faces! Congratulations Candice and BJ! We can’t wait to shoot your wedding next year. The two of you go together like biscuits and gravy.

Rachel & Gil | Maternity

Just doing a little back-blogging here. This is a fun maternity shoot that we did with Rachel & Gil. Genevieve was born on September 10th at 1:27 am. A healthy and beautiful little girl weighing in at 7 lbs 12.5 oz. She’s going to be the biggest Ravens fan ever! Congratulations to Rachel and Gil!

Bubbles and fun

Meet Owen, the happiest kid you’ll ever meet. Recently I was in old town Ellicott city, MD for a shoot, I saw a guy outside one of the shops dressed as a pink bird using one of these bubble wands. He was able to make the biggest bubbles and right away I knew my nephew, Owen would love it. So I purchased this 20 dollar plastic round thingy. I’ve never seen a kid have more fun in a half hour then Owen did. He showed me how much fun a kid can have with the simplest of things. Thanks little guy!

Sarah | Senior Session | Clarksville, MD

I had the opportunity to shoot senior pictures for Sarah, it was a great session. Sarah really wanted to take pictures that captured her personality, not the cookie cutter pics that tend to be senior pictures. Sarah’s horse Buttons and the barn are a huge part of her life, so we really wanted to show that in the pictures. Buttons was so well behaved and cooperative, not to mention super sweet. It was really a lot of fun to capture these pictures.

Rica + Josh Maternity | Baltimore MD 08.31.11

Hey! This is Danielle, Justin’s wife. I’ve hijacked this post because my friend and bio classmate, Josh, and his wife, Rica, are having a baby! It was great to finally meet Josh’s wife, and for Justin to meet Josh since we spent all last semester studying together and getting through bio lab as fast as possible lol. So I coordinated this shoot with Justin (as I do with many) and we met them at Tide Point in Baltimore- a great place for a casual shoot. Since we started in the evening we were able to catch daylight and sunset, which turned out beautiful. Justin thought of some creative ways to emphasize Rica’s tummy since she is petite as it is, and then her striped shirt ended up unintentionally camouflaging it even more. But I think he did a great job and Rica looked beautiful! It was also hilarious watching Josh uncomfortably make funny faces right next to Rica’s belly (see the end of the post) since he expected to mostly be in the background for this shoot lol sorry Josh! Anyways, we had a great time with them and I know they will be awesome parents to their gorgeous baby girl, whom I’m sure will be in a future blog post! Stay tuned!

Baby Brockton

This is baby Brockton, he’s the son of my friend, (train buddy Megan) who I started riding the train with while she was pregnant.
The day of the shoot called for 98 degree weather, so we tried to get out early to avoid the heat.We showed up and it started to rain, which wasn’t predicted in the forecast. So that was awesome! It didn’t last however, we were able to get started shortly after. I had seen pics of Brockton on Facebook, so I new he had great big blue eyes and I knew just what I wanted to do for props. He was one of the best behaved little subjects I ever shot, didnt fuss once.

I had a great time, can’t wait until next time! Thanks for the opportunity Megan!

Sisters

Hey everyone!

Sorry it’s been a while since we have been able to post. We are in the prime of wedding season! AHHH! So anyhow I had the chance to photograph Melissa and her sisters a few weeks back. Melissa was the maid of honor at one of my all time favorite clients’ wedding, Lauren & Alex! I am actually shooting Melissa’s wedding this year as well. So excited! Anyhow, the father of Melissa and her sister, Michelle, is getting married this fall to the mother of the identical twins. So the girls planned this photo shoot as a gift for their new parents. I met them on a beautiful sunny day at Centennial Park in Ellicott City. We were lucky to catch one of the cooler days of this summer. The girls had a lot of laughs balancing in canoes and scaring the geese (or rather…being scared by the geese)

Melissa, I sure hope your parents enjoy the photos!!!

ok so I just had to throw in this first set of photos- the girls got to close to the geese and they hissed at them! Look at Michelle’s face (right) in the first and second frame!
